In February 2013 Proplaneta worked with Montenegro Red Cross facilitating a participatory video with a group of 10 Red Cross Youth volunteers age 14-19 of Kolasin town.The youth produced a participatory video reflecting how the community, the Red Cross, NGO's and local government are together fighting and preparing some of the climate change impacts the region is suffering, such as stronger floods, water shortage, landslides and snow storms.
They learned how to identify which messages where important and how to film and report them.
The team cruised around the mountains of Kolasin after the best stories. And after the filming was complete, the video was edited on a participatory approach. They voted for the best messages and takes and during 12 hours told the tech editor what was in and what was out. On participatory video the editorial control is always of the participants.
Their video was screened at the main school in a room full of teens just like them. The power of participatory video screening is that it promotes student-to-student education on a informal atmosphere and dynamic way.
